Candles in Ukrainian culture played a huge role, both in everyday life and in magical and ceremonial history. In ancient times, wax products were considered one of the most important talismans and carried enormous energy value. Heavenly fire served as a mandatory ritual attribute at weddings, family or calendar holidays. At this time, candles have long become a favorite piece of decor in society. Making them is a great pastime for one or the whole family.
We have prepared for you a basic kit for creating wax products, so that everyone who wants to can make their own unique mold or container candle.
The basis of a candle is always wax. You can choose any, natural or synthetic. Be sure to take a scale, as wax is measured in grams.
We advise you to use natural waxes, they ensure long burning and better transfer of aromas, without harming your health. You can consider the pros and cons of waxes in more detail in the article "Which wax is better to use for making candles?" "
Once you have chosen the base, prepare the wick as it is the second main part of the waxwork. It should be chosen taking into account the largest side of the mold, or based on the diameter of the mold.
BE SURE to test the candle burning against the chosen wick. Sometimes the candle can smoke very strongly or, on the contrary, the wick can sink into the wax. Such moments arise due to an incorrectly selected size.
A needle or an awl for threading the wick are tools that will certainly come in handy in making a shaped candle. With their help, you can easily pull the wick through the mold.
To hold the wick on the surface or in the middle of the mold, choose wooden or metal holders. Their functionality will make your work much easier and will help keep it in the position you need during hardening.
When melting the wax (we choose a metal ladle or a wax melting cauldron), you must strictly observe the temperature limits recommended for the wax you have chosen, and gradually stir it with a wooden stick. In order to always be sure of the temperature, use a thermometer.
Before pouring the shaped candle into the mold, we advise you to heat the mold with a hair dryer before pouring, and treat the mold with silicone spray. With its help, the product is much easier to remove from the mold without any damage. Also, for the convenience of cutting the wick, you should buy universal nippers. For a container candle, be sure to blow dry the selected container with a hair dryer.
