The world market is rich in a variety of waxes. Sometimes beginners or experienced candlemakers who want to change the material of manufacture have questions about which one is better to choose?

We decided to investigate the topic of natural and synthetic waxes in more detail and familiarize you with them.

Paraffin wax is a synthetic material that is formed during the processing of oil. It is quite durable, goes well with dyes, aroma oils, and is suitable for both container candles and shaped or carved candles. However, during the burning of a candle made of paraffin wax, the product can smoke heavily and emit toxic fumes that are harmful to health. We recommend that candlemakers choose paraffin wax - non-food refined paraffin. It is completely purified and does not release toxic fumes during combustion. The price category of this wax is quite cheap compared to natural ones.

Palm wax is a natural material made from palm leaves or bark. Such wax is absolutely safe, does not smoke or release harmful vapors during burning. Combines well with dyes and aroma oils. Although this wax is suitable for making shaped candles, it has a brittle texture. You need to be very careful when making a candle. It is worth waiting for the product to completely harden and carefully remove it from the mold.
The special feature of palm wax is the "patterns" that appear on the surface of the candle and create a unique design. This wax belongs to the middle price category.

Coconut wax is a natural material made from coconut oil. In terms of texture, this wax is very soft and can melt just by being in the sun for a long time. It is best suited for container products or a massage candle. The advantage of this wax is its low burning temperature, which allows the candle to burn longer than paraffin or palm candles. Coconut wax is more expensive than palm, paraffin and soy waxes.

Soy wax is a universal wax for making molded and container candles. Its composition is completely natural, it does not contain a smell, therefore it is well combined with aromatic oils and dyes. The burning time of soy wax is 50% longer than that of paraffin candles, because its melting point is lower. During burning, the candle does not smoke and does not emit toxic substances.

We recommend using KeraSoy Pillar 4120 for shaped candles and Nature Wax C-3 for container candles. Soy wax is more expensive than paraffin wax or palm wax.

Olive wax is one of the most underrated waxes on the Ukrainian market. In addition to the fact that the wax has a completely natural composition and combines well with additives, it is stronger than soy wax, so you should choose a wick with a larger diameter than for soy wax, and it has a longer burning time. This is a characteristic plus for shaped candles. With the help of a strong texture, the finished product easily transfers details and is removed from the mold. We recommend using EcoOlive PillarBlend for candle holders. The price category of olive wax is higher than soy, coconut, palm and paraffin waxes.

Beeswax - 100% natural, has a characteristic color and aroma. The special feature of this wax is that it is produced by bees. The texture of the wax is dense and easily retains its shape, which is very suitable for shaped or table candles. Sometimes, so that the wick does not choke during burning, beeswax can be mixed with soy wax in the proportion of 70 (beeswax)-30 (soy)%.
The burning time of beeswax is longer than that of the ones listed above, also because of its naturalness and uniqueness, it is one of the most expensive waxes.

We recommend using natural materials to create candles. They do not harm health and have a long burning time, which gives aesthetic pleasure.
